Plum Blossom Black

Plum blossom fragrance is one of the treasured scents of winter in east Asian countries so we are thrilled to offer Mr Ota’s delicious black tea which he fragrances with plum blossoms for the old plum trees in his own garden. Ota’s farm is near the famous old tea town of Ureshino (literally “Happy Field”) in Saga Kyushu which is noted for its long history of fired green teas known as kamairicha which came from China during the Ming period. Indeed the area even has a nationally protected 400 year old tea tree!

Though Mr Ota and his father before him having produced many types of tea, the farm has been making black teas since 1990. They also have been limiting all agrochemicals for many years and will become fully organic certified by JAS this year.

Plum Blossom Black tea finds the perfect balance between the astringent backbone of the tea and the sweet cherry / plum / apricot scent of the flowers. Deep and complex yet enjoyable and easy to make, this tea ended a long quest to find a tea Tim was given a small sample of in 2009 so no wonder it is his favourite at the moment!

BREWING
95-100°C, 3-4g per cup, with or without milk. 3 infusions.
